Hello everyone, in this first post I am going to leave you some flashcards related to the main topic of the blog, Sports.

Specifically, there are twenty-four sports, represented with drawings and with their respective names below. I also wanted to use different colours so that students can associate the sport with the color of the card.

Thanks to the cards you will be able to work on the vocabulary of the topic that will later appear in the different skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking).

Here I tell you some of the activities you can do with them:

  • Guess the word: the child only sees the drawing and has to guess the name of the sport.
  • Comparison of two sports: two different flashcards are needed and the children have to compare both.
  • Search and find: all the cards are on the table and the child must find the card that you are describing to them.
  • Pictionary: the child takes a card and draws what appears. The rest will have to guess the sport he has drawn.
  • Look for your partner: the flashcards are printed twice, and so the child must find the same card, all of them must be face down, so they must memorize the place where they are.

At the same time that children learn vocabulary with these games, they improve memory, improve social skills and work on speaking in an interactive way.

My next contribution to this blog is to propose that you make a rotating folio with your students. This activity consists of taking a sheet of paper per row, and each one must write a phrase, in this case related to one of the sports, without knowing what the previous classmate has written. When you finish writing you must make a double on the sheet and pass it on to the next person, thus several stories will be created at the same time, with all the students participating. They will cooperatively create very funny stories while improving their writing skills and their creativity.

Interview with a swimmer to improve listening skills

I would like to share this interview that I found searching the Internet for the British Council website where they talk to a swimmer, with which the students will work on their listening skills. They will be able to listen to the audio twice and must fill in the gaps with the exact words that appear in the audio. Below, the complete transcription so that each of you can decide which words you hide from the students to carry out the activity.
